बघे हिरमुसलेला देव खिन्न काळ हा;

त्या भल्या आकाशात नसे पक्षी एकही;

आहे बघत वाट येत्या अपूर्वाईची;

आली अचानक घेऊन गंध आशेचा;

गाजलेल्या अभावाचा भावी प्रतिसाद;

येण्या बहुत्वाने जगी भरभराटीत;

फडकावन्या झेंडा भुतळी उंच उंच;

भविष्याच्या मुद्रा दिसती टाकसाळेत;

उभारण्या भव्य इमारत समृद्धीची;

A Rendering into English by Akash Deshpande

The Disheartened God

By a dry riverbank a desolate temple

Watches a disheartened god this gloomy time

No cattle in the deserted village square

And in that vast sky not a single bird

Yet an old clock though seemingly displeased

Awaits the imminent extraordinariness

And one morning a southeasterly breeze

Wafted suddenly carrying the fragrance of hope

Her assent to the call of the two-gourded harp

Was the future’s reply of the renowned absence

Intense wish of the ideative creator

Multiply to enter the world in abundance

Winning success on that righteous field

Made the enemy hoist on earth a high flag

And the coins jingle in a big empty pocket

The future currency visible in the mint

Forgetting Self everything becomes nothingness

To raise the edifice of prosperity

There was a resolve of yogic endeavor

In the desolation of the dry riverbank
