Golden Champā—

तेजस्वी अद्भुतता युगांच्या वचनांची येई इथेही धावत;

सुवर्ण प्रकाशाने वाढविलेला, पावसाच्या सदैव हर्षात;

न मिटणारा सर्जनशील आनंद, त्याचे अद्वितीय स्मित;

शुभ घेई प्रखर देहरूप चैतन्याच्या अनिर्बंध संकल्पनेत;

आणिला त्यांनी गुणगुणाट निर्झराचा वाहत्या काव्यात;

Here is a rendering into English by Akash Deshpande:

In all the seven worlds throbs this frangipani’s bright flame

The fiery wonder of ages’ promises runs hither

First that tree surged rapidly in the garden of the sky

Grown by the golden light, in the constant joy of the rain

Frangipani spreading fragrance in valleys and cities

Its indelible creative bliss, its peerless smile

A glowing fire discovers the life of deathlessness

Good takes fierce form in the boundless concept of consciousness

Look, birds and birds come singing, like words on infinite wings

Bringing the melodies of streams in flowing poetry

Treasure of the sun has entered the narrow house of stone

Thus is the creator’s askesis of union fulfilled

Truly a God’s gift.

    here is something for you : Mother contemplates a flower she is holding in her hand. It is the golden champak flower (Michelia champaka).

    Have you noticed this flower?

    It has twelve petals in three rows of four.

    We have called it “Supramental psychological perfection”.

    I had never noticed that it had three rows: a small row like this, another one a little larger and a third one larger still. They are in gradations of four: four petals, four petals, four petals.

    Well, if one indeed wants to see in the forms of Nature a symbolic expression, one can see a centre which is the supreme Truth, and a triple manifestation―because four indicates manifestation―in three superimposed worlds: the outermost―these are the largest petals, the lightest in colour―that is a physical world, then a vital world and a mental world, and then at the centre, the supramental Truth.
