Smiling Purity

Unconcerned by measures of space and beats of time,

White-petalled is the fragrance seeking wide wings;

It shall carry the smiling bloom of the soil to the sky

For the ambrosial downpour in its bosom;

Moonlight shall attain a goldenness of wonder

Shared by the stars in galaxies and in songs;

Anthem of the night shall burst into a chant

Winning joy of the creator for the creation.

स्मितं निर्मलता

अन्तरिक्षमापैः कालस्पन्दनैः च अचिन्तितः,

श्वेतदलः विस्तृतपक्षान् इच्छन् गन्धः;

मृत्तिकायाः स्मितपुष्पं व्योमं प्रति वहति

तस्य वक्षसि मधुमृतवृष्टिः हि;

चन्द्रप्रकाशः विस्मयस्य सुवर्णतां प्राप्स्यति

आकाशगङ्गेषु गीतेषु च ताराभिः विभक्तम्;

रात्रिगीतं जपं विस्फोटयिष्यति

सृष्टेः कृते विधातुः आनन्दं जित्वा।

    Purity is to accept no other influence but only the influence of the Divine.***

    It [purity] is more a condition than a substance. Peace helps to purity—since in peace disturbing influences cease and the essence of purity is to respond only to the Divine Influence and not to have an affinity with other movements.***

    Purity means freedom from soil or mixture. The divine Purity is that in which there is no mixture of the turbid ignorant movements of the lower nature.

    Sri Aurobindo

    The poem is as beautiful as jasmine’s fragrance. Prof Deshpande is undoubtedly one of the greatest living poets of India.

    In the year 1950-1951, with a difficult post-operation healing,

    I used to bring to the Mother a handful of these fragrant blossoms

    every evening at the time of Her resting in the Play Ground, after

    Concentration. She used to bless me with a handkerchief- ful of them,

    to fill my nights with Her presence.

    What about the word /surabhi/ instead of /gandhah/?

      Yes, surabhi is a beautiful word though gandha has richer sound in the line. I will change it.

      Handful of blossoms from the Mother is an exceptionally beautiful privilege. Congratulations. Thanks for sharing it. You deserve it even as Grace does not go by any conditions, we deserving it or having any privilege.

    “Anthem of the night shall burst into a chant

    Winning joy of the creator for the creation.”

    What a wonderful image/metaphor to illustrate that now, or very soon from now, “a way is cleared for the Divine Goddess of Bliss, Anandamayi, to step into manifestation leading towards life divine in a divine body” as you said in the other post of today about the last three passages dictated by Sri Aurobindo in Savitri.
